Monique spent years hiding the abuse she endured behind closed doors, trying to shield her children even as they learned to stay quiet out of fear. Rebuilding has been slow and difficult. The children still battle nightmares and the lingering fear that he might find them, but they are healing. They sleep through the night now and no longer flinch at every sound. Monique is exhausted and still recovering, yet she saved her children and is rebuilding their lives from the ground up. She now works in counseling and continues to piece together a safer future because she refused to let violence shape their lives.
